چکیده

In order to evaluate the performance of stents used in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (T-AVI), finite element simulations are set up to reconstruct patient specific contact forces between implant and its surrounding tissue. The reference geometry of the stent is obtained using micro-CT scanning data. A procedure is defined to create a numerically efficient and robust model of the stent made of beam elements. The model is validated with experiments applying representative loading cases. Post-op CT image data provide patient specific displacement maps used to define kinematic boundary conditions for the finite element simulation. An approach to deal with the issue of spurious strains induced by measurement uncertainties from CT images is proposed. Maps of radial forces acting on the aortic tissue are obtained.

Three Different Imaging Modalities of a Patient with the Aortic Coarctation

The patient was a 19 year-old woman with the diagnosis of resistant hypertension, although she was under treatment of three classes of anti-hypertensive drugs (beta blocker, angiotensin receptor blocker, diuretic) for more than one year. In physical examination there was only a significant difference between the systolic blood pressure of upper and lower extremities (200 vs. 120 mmHg), without ...

A rare case of prosthetic aortic valve endocarditis complicated with multiple fistula to peri aortic structure

Multiple aorto-cardiac cavity communications is very rare but important complication of prosthetic aortic valve endocarditis. The case below illustrates multiple aorto-cardiac cavity fistula formation following prostethic aortic valve endocarditis presented with slowly progressive symptoms of heart failure. A brief review of surgical reconstruction and the existing literature are presented, i...

Stress Analysis in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms Applying Flow Induced Wall Pressure

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a localized dilatation of the aortic wall. The lack of an accurate AAA rupture risk index remains an important problem in the clinical management of the disease. To accurately estimate AAA rupture risk, detailed information on patient specific wall stress distribution and aortic wall tissue yield stress is required. A complete fluid structure interaction (FSI)...

Design and finite element-based fatigue prediction of a new self-expandable percutaneous mitral valve stent

Percutaneous heart valve replacement is currently limited to the replacement of pulmonary and aortic valves in a targeted group of patients. Designing a heart valve for mitral valve replacement is further limited by its distinctive anatomical feature, which places a constraint on its range of design options. To overcome such limitations, the objectives of this study were to use computational mo...
